Handlebar end weights - For enduro, road and race track

Handlebar ends and weights for them fulfil an important task in daily driving. The engine and driving on bumpy ground cause vibrations at the handlebars. The weights reduce them. At the same time they also take over an optical function and round off the appearance of your motorcycle. In the TecBike Shop you will find a large selection of handlebar ends. You can get them with different weights and in many colors and shapes.

Stylish vibration dampers for handlebar ends are safety relevant

Modern engines score points with a cultivated run. Even the rustic-looking Boxer or current V-twin engines have long since ceased to generate as many vibrations as previous years of manufacture. Nevertheless, vibration dampers are indispensable components.

They have been in use since the 1980s and are designed to reduce higher-frequency natural vibrations. Components attached to vehicles have a natural oscillation. It is excited by the course of the road, the chassis or the engine. The vibrations are not limited to one frequency, as for example with a tuning fork. They repeat themselves at periodic intervals. At different engine and/or wheel speeds, the handlebar tube begins to vibrate in different directions. This is where the weights come into play. Mounted at the end of the handlebars, they shift the natural oscillation into lower frequency ranges. Basically, if the attached weight is higher, the excited frequency of the tube is the lower.

But be careful: A badly balanced handlebar, for example due to an incorrect weight, can cause the motorcycle to pull to the heavier side. In addition to the vibration reduction already mentioned, handlebar weights also reduce the risk of material fatigue in the area of the handlebar tube.

Motorcycle handlebar ends - their effect on handling

For optimum effect, weights are mounted on the handlebar ends at the outermost point of the tube. Usually these attachments weigh about 200 grams per piece. Despite the not inconsiderable weight, their mass inertia can be neglected with a clear conscience. Even really hard lean angle changes, such as those required in a chicane on the race track, can be mastered quickly and easily.

Pleasant driving experience even on long distances thanks to the handlebar weights

Anyone who rides many long distances on motorcycles knows that high-frequency vibrations, especially those caused by four-cylinder engines, can be very annoying in the long run. The hands fall asleep. It is quite possible that the vibrations on the handlebars cause the so-called carpal tunnel syndrome. It is associated with numb fingers and pain. Many motorcyclists are affected. To counteract this, the manufacturers of the various motorcycle brands put a weight suitable for the machine on each end of the handlebars. And already the frequency shifts to a non-critical range.

Last but not least, the weights at the handlebar ends serve as fall prevention. If the bike falls over, these attachments protect the levers, throttle grip and steering tube from damage. Of course it is possible to replace the actual steel weights with lightweight aluminum parts. This can spoil your driving pleasure with tickling vibrations in the long run.

In order to survive the race distances as free of vibrations as possible, many drivers in racing even rely on the calming effect of the handlebar weights. By the way, this trick to suppress vibrations with additional weight is also used in the area of the footrests. Massive "fear nipples" or in the form of additional weights, which are screwed under the aluminium rests, they fulfil the same tasks as their relatives on the handlebars.

Striking motorcycle weights or rather discreet and almost invisible?

Which model you choose from our range depends on your personal taste. While black motorcycle weights make for a very clean and understated look, colorful handlebar weights like those offered by ABM bring a lot of color into play. You can get the add-on parts for all popular brands from us. Please check before buying, if your desired product really fits to your machine.
