Turn signal mirror & handlebar mirror - FAR mirror design

The way is the goal - it is important that you do not only observe the route in front of you. Motorcycle mirrors must fulfil their daily purpose and give you an optimal overview of the traffic behind you. You don't need any special tools to mount our handlebar mirrors and the work is done in a few easy steps.

What must and what is allowed at all? Rearview mirrors for your motorcycle

The time when motorcycles were completely without the small shiny and mirroring attachments is long gone. The original version of the StVZO from 1937 exempted motorcycles and so-called open electric carts from the mirror obligation. So the mounting and the use of these vehicles was voluntary. The situation has been different since January 1961.

With the turn of the year 1960/191 a new version of the StVZO came into force and since this date a rear-view mirror is also mandatory for motorised two-wheelers. However, the information regarding size or type was still very general compared to today.

Until January 1990 only a rear-view mirror on the bike was sufficient. For motorcycles with a top speed of more than 100 km/h, the new version then stipulated a second mirror. Until mid 1991, special regulations applied to motorcycles from the former GDR. From 01.07.1991, two-wheelers from East and West were treated equally.

Since 17 June 2003, approval is only possible according to uniform EU standards/EU law. Already since April 01, 2000 the StVZO refers to the EEC directive 97/24/EC. Which requirements must a motorcycle mirror meet exactly? In the following we have summarized the answers for you.
The mirrors must be adjustable.

The housing surrounding the mirror must be at least 2.5 mm thick.
The minimum mirror size is 69 cm² (60 cm² is sufficient for older machines).
The mirror surface must fit into a circle with a diameter of 78 mm. It must also be able to be framed by a rectangle measuring 12 x 20.
Round mirrors may have a diameter between 94 and 150 mm.
Glass: Only convex designs are permitted.

A type approval mark is mandatory. It is only granted if all conditions are fulfilled. Furthermore, it must be clearly legible at all times, even when the mirror is mounted.
When mounting at a height of less than 2 m, the mirrors must not project more than 20 cm from the handlebars.
A maximum distance of 20 cm from the centre of the vehicle is permitted.
Viewing angle (measured from the horizontal) from eye to mirror: no more than 55°.

Which mirrors are available at TecBike?

Motorcycle mirrors are available in our shop not only from different manufacturers, but also in different construction or mounting variants and of course E-approved.

The classic - handlebar mirror

So-called handlebar mirrors are usually fitted as standard by the manufacturers. A thread is already provided for this on the handlebars. The scope of delivery of many products from the accessory range also includes exchangeable thread adapters. This makes it possible to mount the mirrors to the existing mirror threads of all brands.

Eye-catcher of a special kind - handlebar end mirror

The special thing about a handlebar end mirror is its mostly hanging mounting. This not only attracts attention. Thanks to the low position you don't have to look over your shoulder when looking into the mirror. You have a clear view to the rear. On motorcycles with a wide mirror, this type of mirror creates an extraordinary look.

There are several ways to attach them. In our shop you will find models that are clamped to the handlebars. It is also possible to fix them directly at the end of the handlebars in the thread provided.

Fairing mirrors - from classic round to sporty dynamic

The name already suggests it, these products you attach directly to the fairing of your motorcycle. Depending on the model, a mirror base with slotted holes is used for mounting. This allows a universal use. Other mirrors, however, require an additional mirror adapter. Therefore we always recommend to study the respective article description thoroughly.

Direction indicator mirror

Many bikers prefer a very clean and puristic look on their bike. The simple designs offer almost infinite possibilities to design and optimize the bike exactly according to your wishes. So-called turn signal mirrors combine duty and design and combine mirrors with the turn signal unit. Also at the top of the popularity scale is the carbon look for these products.

If you want something more - accessories and practical mirror extensions from TecBike

Mirrors on the motorcycle are not only mandatory, they allow you a clear view of the traffic behind you. Of course, the design of the vision aids plays an important role in the selection. At the same time an unobstructed and free view to the rear must be guaranteed. If you mount the mirrors elsewhere or perhaps change the width of the handlebars, a mirror widening can be helpful. This allows you to improve or optimise the ergonomics of your motorcycle mirrors and at the same time provide more safety through better rear view.

For all products we focus on quality and demanding brands like Viper and high quality materials. This offers you a maximum of stability, a long service life and of course a special look. With the right tool, you can complete the assembly in no time at all. Take a look now and discover everything you need to customize your bike in the TecBike shop!
