Exhaust heat protection - as protective tape or film

The exhaust system on a vehicle takes over important functions. The resulting exhaust gases are directed to the rear and thus ensure a perfect function of the engine. The system also helps to reduce the noise produced to the level required by law. When the engine is running, the combustion process generates considerable heat. It is also dissipated through the exhaust. The individual components of the system heat up very much, you will quickly burn your leg on it or your estate car will be damaged if it comes into contact with the hot exhaust parts. The solution to this problem can be found in our TECbike range:

    t
  • Heat protection tape made of TITAN
  • t
  • Exhaust tapes in different designs made of textile
  • t
  • Heat protection mat

Proven in racing for a long time - heat protection tapes for the exhaust

Motor racing has its own dynamic. Even for hobby racers who only want to test their limits on the race track every now and then, there are many things that need to be considered. Among them are fixed rules and legal requirements and of course a lot of safety precautions. For many pilots, heat protection tapes have been part of their equipment for many years. They can even contribute to a certain increase in performance for more safety and with the appropriate engine tuning.

What exactly is the heat protection band?

A race makes the highest demands on man and material. Under certain circumstances there is a risk that the engine compartment will overheat. As a result, the fuel starts to "boil" and the electronics also cannot tolerate these excessively high temperatures. In order to avoid such damage, high-quality and very temperature-resistant heat protection products are used.

The heat protection or exhaust tape ensures improved heat dissipation of the hot exhaust gases. The heat does not get into the engine compartment, but is reliably released into the environment. If the tape is applied under the fairing, it also prevents the formation of so-called "heat nests".

How does the heat protection work?

To protect your motorcycle from heat, you will find various products in our range. Besides the classic tape for exhaust and co. you can also get a temperature resistant heat protection mat. The 418 x 316 mm mats protect trim parts from the effects of heat. Thanks to an adhesive surface, the individual parts can be attached exactly where you need them. In order to adapt them optimally, they can be cut to size. This keeps the cladding cool at temperatures of up to 550 °C.

To meet the high demands on the race track or in everyday life, heat protection bands are made of heat-resistant materials. Cable harnesses or the bodywork are thus effectively protected from excessive heat development in racing. Exhaust parts, which include manifolds and co., do not overheat. This protects the material and enables a perfect function.

This is what you should consider when buying a band for the exhaust

Universal heat protection tapes for the motorcycle are available in different versions. Among other things the products are offered in different colours. On a white band, soiling can be seen much faster than on black versions. However, if only short applications, for example competitions, exhibitions or performances are planned with it, the light colour is a real eye-catcher in any case. Please note that dark bands tend to fade with time.

The width

Exhaust tapes are offered in different widths. Which width you choose is a personal choice, also from an optical point of view. In general: Narrower tapes can be wound more cleanly not only at tricky places.

The length

Usually the roll length starts at 5 meters. Which length is the right one for you, depends on the vehicle you have. Furthermore it plays an important role how much you want to wrap. We recommend: Buy a roll that's too long, rather than one with too little on it. If you use several tapes for one part of the vehicle, it may be visible. In addition, there is always the risk that one of the tapes will come loose.

The right quality is what counts

As with everything in life: It is better to choose a high quality and therefore usually more expensive exhaust system than a cheaper and perhaps inferior one. Only then the tape can meet your requirements and score with a long durability.

What should you pay attention to when using heat protection tapes?

If you have re-wrapped parts of the exhaust with the heat shield, it is perfectly normal for there to be some smoke during the first ride. Also normal is a noticeable smell.

If used improperly, for example if the maximum temperature is exceeded for a long period of time, it is possible that deposits may form on the parts below. They are difficult or in the worst case impossible to remove.

Wrapping the exhaust system can change the resonance conditions and the thermal in the system. A new adjustment of the carburettor or even a change of the jetting can be necessary.
