Radiator grille - stainless steel radiator grille against stone chips & insects

When operating an internal combustion engine, a large amount of heat is generated. Therefore, cooling is essential for the engine to maintain its functionality. Basically, a distinction is made between air cooling and cooling by means of liquid. Although water or oil coolers require a minimum of maintenance, you should still check the cooling fins regularly for damage or dirt. If the time has come for a replacement, you will find a wide selection of cooling grilles in the TecBike online range:

  • Radiator grilles from R&G
  • Radiator grilles for water coolers in black, red, green or blue
  • Radiator grille for oil cooler
  • Radiator grille made of stainless steel
  • Radiator grille for the brands Honda, Kawasaki, BMW, Yamaha, Ducati, Suzuki and Augusta as well as KTM

Indispensable for water coolers and oil coolers: radiator guards from R&G

Frequent riders, whether on the racetrack or in road traffic, know the problem: relatively quickly the cooling fins, which are usually located between the front wheel and the engine, get ugly marks. Small stones, insects and the like can be the cause.

Cooling fins on the oil or water radiator increase the surface area and thus improve heat exchange. If these fins are now soiled or dented, this leads to a considerable loss of cooling surface.

A radiator grille protects the cooling finson your motorcycle from damage. These radiator grilles reliably catch stone chips and the like, and the cooling system fins are not dented.

When choosing a radiator grille, for example for a KTM motorcycle, you should make sure that the radiator grille not only meets optical requirements. The air flow must be able to pass the cooling fins as unhindered as possible.

Care of the fins on the water cooler

Insects, abrasion, mud, dust and the like cause the sensitive fins on the radiator to become dirty. To ensure limited function, regular inspection of the cooling fins is important.

If foreign objects, for example leaves and the like, have accumulated in front of the cooling fins, you should remove them immediately. They represent a considerable obstruction to the air flow.

Insects are not only a nuisance on the helmet visor. If only a few have landed between the louvers, you should keep an eye on your cooling louvers, but they are less of a problem for now. In the case of heavier contamination, meaning a blockage of about one third of the radiator surface, this can already have a negative effect on the motorcycle engine. In the worst case, there is even a risk of damage.

Removing the insects is very simple: Carefully brush out the fins with a clothes brush. If you discover individual, slightly bent lamellae, you can remain completely relaxed. If a major impact has flattened a large number of the metal plates, you should pay more attention to your water temperature while driving. If necessary, the radiator will need to be repaired. With a radiator grille placed in front of the cooling fins, you can protect the sensitive fins from these damaging influences.

When cleaning can be more thorough

First, the most important thing: A high-pressure cleaner is completely unsuitable for cleaning dirt and other debris from thewater cooling system on your motorcycle. It can even lead to problems with the bike's electrical system.

  • All you need is a simple pump sprayer, like the ones used for plant care. You fill it with water. A little universal, insect or engine cleaner is helpful to loosen stuck dirt.
  • Now thoroughly spray the water cooling system with it and let it soak in. How long depends on the degree of soiling. If necessary, spray again and again.
  • Now fill the pump sprayer with clear water and set the jet to hard. Brush the softened dirt out of the slats with a soft brush. At the same time, rinse the cooling fins with the sprayer.
  • Carefully restore bent fins to their original position with a fine screwdriver or needle-nose pliers. To avoid further damage, a bit of dexterity is required.
  • To prevent future damage to the radiator grille, use an R&G radiator grille from our range.

Optimal protection for the motorcycle and the radiator

So that your motorcycle is optimally protected against negative influences, our assortment offers you a wide selection of protectors and Co. Of course, the optics must not be neglected. Protective grilles for the radiator are available in many trendy colors: black, blue, green, red or in an elegant stainless steel look. If you have any questions about our products, we will be happy to advise you!
