Tips for wintering
The battery
If you want your motorcycle to survive the winter break, it is important to take a little time in late autumn to "mothball" it. So that the machine awakens from hibernation in the spring with a pleasant hum, you should pay attention to your battery. A motorcycle-specific battery charger refreshes the cells even after a long period of inactivity.
Brakes
When wintering, the brake pads should not rest against the discs. There is a risk that they will get stuck. At the first start, they then come off with a loud cracking noise. So-called penetrating oils keep the articulated bearings of clutch and brake levers on the motorcycle supple.
The chain
Common X- or O-ring chains tend to accumulate rust. Although this does not impair their function, it does not look nice. Here again, the penetrating oil is used. This allows old chain grease to be removed more easily at the same time.
The tires
Current motorcycle tires require a minimum air pressure of around 1.5 bar to survive the cold season well. There is no danger of getting square over this period with modern tires.
Fit for the start of the season with TecBike
Your motorcycle has survived the winter rest period well protected. Shortly before the season starts, it's time to get it ready for takeoff. Actually, it should be enough to insert the battery and off you go. But practice is usually different. Before the first ride, a thorough check is essential.
- Clean the chain, adjust it if necessary and grease it. During this work, you can also check the wear.
- Remove the dust of the winter with a thorough vehicle wash. At the same time you can check the bike for possible defects (leaks, loose screws, correct adjustment of hand and foot levers)
- If you did not change the motorcycle's oil when mothballing, now is the time to do it. It is best to change the oil filter as well. Refer to the manual for detailed information on oil viscosity and fill quantity.
- Before your first ride, be sure to check the brakes. They must react immediately to the pull of the lever or the step on the pedal and the pistons must release after operation. Are the brake pads still strong enough?
- The battery, tires and chassis should also be checked thoroughly.
